Independent publishers and authors celebrate their accomplishments at the 2012 IPPY Book Awards.

On Monday June 4th, kicking off BookExpo America, independent publishers and authors gathered to celebrate their accomplishments and an incredible array of intelligent and creative books at the 16th Annual Independent Publisher Book Awards. The IPPYs honor the year’s best independently published titles across categories ranging from cookbooks to erotic fiction. This year the IPPYs saw over 350 independent publishers and authors in the former recording studio and disco Providence on 57th street.

The evening started out with a bang for Welcome Books, winning this year’s first gold medal for Off the Menu in the Cookbooks category. Welcome Books’ Publisher Lena Tabori accepted the award on behalf of author Marissa Guggiana and Welcome Books.

Welcome Books finished our winning streak with a beloved classic, The Little Big Book of Christmas. Winning the Bronze IPPY award in the Holiday category, The Little Big Book of Christmas has been a lasting holiday favorite for over twenty years. Publisher and author of The Little Big Book of Christmas Lena Tabori accepted the award with pride.

The 2012 IPPY awards were an excellent way to end my first day at Welcome Books –my name is Alexandra Guillen and I am two weeks into my new position as Assistant to the Publisher. It was a treat to see my new company recognized and celebrated as one of the greats of independent publishing.
