Dr. Jay Ben Adlersberg’s Ireland In Word and Image is a Love Letter to the Emerald Isle

IRELAND_cover_wAlersberg_72New York, NY – October 22, 2013 –A familiar face to millions of New Yorkers as the Health and Medical Reporter of ABC 7’s Eyewitness News, on October 22 Dr. Jay Adlersberg unveiled his inner Renaissance Man with the release of his debut coffee table photo book, Ireland: In Word and Image (Welcome Books).

In Ireland, Jay Ben Adlersberg (as a photographer, he uses his full name) brings forth 160 deeply atmospheric images to accompany over forty powerfully evocative texts (selected by editor Samantha Bowser) from the Emerald Isle’s greatest writers, poets and essayists, including James Joyce, Frank McCourt, W.B. Yeats.

Adlersberg’s talent for reducing the most complex medical news to straightforward layman’s terms on camera has translated brilliantly into an ability to present readers with a big picture view of Ireland that clearly captures both the island’s mystical ancient past and vibrant contemporary spirit. Ireland is at once an introduction and a love letter to a country that is the ancestral home to nearly 34.5 million Irish-Americans. (That’s seven times the population of Ireland itself 4.68 million).

Images of Paleolithic monuments, medieval castles, quiet fishing villages, and bustling cities are eloquently woven into a captivating portrait and compelling invitation. Ireland has won raves from Tourism Ireland, “Jay’s images of the country fire the readers imagination of what it would be like to experience Ireland first hand,” and praise from CNN’s Father Edward L. Beck, “The deep soul and spirit of this luminous country is evident on each finely wrought page of this book. A wonder to behold and to be treasured.”

Doctors who are also acclaimed photographers are indeed a rare breed, but Jay’s in good company: Howard Schatz, an ophthalmologist and photographer has published numerous books celebrating the human form, the latest of which, Caught In The Act: Actors Acting was just released October 7.

A contributing artist to Getty Images, Jay Ben Adlersberg’s clients include Microsoft, Saatchi and Saatchi, Macmillan, and the New York Times. Jay has been voted one of the “Best Doctors in New York” by New York Magazine. He lives in New York City. To view Jay’s work, visit www.jaybenimages.com.
